Fred was born Feb. 23, 1934 in Nevada to Raymond and Lucille (Walter) Markley.  He married Wanda Horn on July 3, 1954, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, and she passed away on July 1, 2021. They were married for 67 years.

He is survived by his two daughters, Carla Peelman, of Fostoria; and Linda (Charles) Messmer of Louisa, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Max (Shannon) Peelman, of Streetsboro; Sara Moore, of Fostoria; and Joshua (Lindsey) Snider, of Paintsville, Kentucky; along with 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Vergene (James) Stuckman and Ellen Johnson, of Bucyrus.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and four brothers, Dale, Alvin, James and Verl Markley.

Fred was a 1952 graduate of Nevada High School and went on to work at the Timken Company in Bucyrus for 38 years.

He was a member of Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky.

Fred enjoyed tinkering in his garage, collecting and working on antique radios, was a ham radio operator and was gifted at cracking safe lock combinations.  He had a “sweet tooth,” so he loved his candy, and had a love for music and played many different string instruments.

He will be remembered for his heart for others in need, always willing to help, and also his pleasant smile and conversation.

A memorial service for Fred Markley is 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Evangelical UMC, with the Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating.  Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the service time Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Evangelical UMC or the Open Door food pantry and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
