Shock shuts down Wildcats in 8-1 win

SYCAMORE — Tournament play started without a hiccup for Mohawk baseball on Saturday. The No. 3-seed Warriors topped 13-seeded Vanlue, 8-1, in Division-IV sectional semifinal action. Mohawk (14-8) hosts No. 7 Danbury in a 5 p.m. Wednesday sectional final.

CAREY — The Carey baseball team failed to find an offensive groove Saturday, and finished with just three hits and no runs, and the sixth-seeded Blue Devils fell at home to eighth-seeded Edison, 6-0, an overcast and rainy morning.

SHELBY — Upper Sandusky’s boys took sixth Saturday in the Shelby Freshman/Sophomore Invitational. Shelby had 93.5 points to win, with Bellevue second with 88 points. The Rams scored 36.5 points.

Swavel’s sixth-inning blast lifts Rams over Tornadoes

Sydney Swavel’s eyes lit up in the bottom of the sixth inning when she saw “a meatball, straight down the middle.” The junior drove the fat pitch over the left field fence for her fifth home run of the season, giving the Upper Sandusky softball team a 5-4 lead over Tiffin Columbian in a non-league game Friday.
