Royals pull away in 2nd half

BUCYRUS — Liberty-Benton has had Wynford’s number in the teams’ last three contests. Not this time around, as the Royals broke open a 14-14 tie by scoring four unanswered possessions in the second half to close the game with a dominating 41-14 victory against the visiting Eagles in a nonconference tilt Friday.

McComb pounces on Carey early

CAREY — McComb looked the part of a state final four team in its season opener at Carey on Friday night. And the Blue Devils looked like a team trying to bounce back from its first losing season in 10 years.

Weinandy leads Warriors to N10 win

BUCYRUS — Carson Weinandy shot a 40 to earn medalist honors and lead Mohawk to a 170-213 victory against Wynford in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference golf match Thursday at The Golf Club of Bucyrus. Chet Margraf and Billy Dunlap both finished with 41s, and Nathan Kimmet scored a 48 for the Warriors (3-0, 3-0 N10).

Hardin Northern rallies twice to earn sweep

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Hardin Northern had to overcome substantial deficits in each of the last two sets to grab a non-conference volleyball sweep of Riverdale on Thursday. The Polar Bears trailed 20-13 in the second set and 21-16 in the third set before rallying in both for a 25-15, 27-25, 25-22 victory.

Brady’s goal gives Rams draw

BELLVILLE — Cameron Brady scored with 9:52 remaining, and Upper Sandusky pressed offensively after that but could not find the back of the net, settling for a 2-2 draw against Clear Fork in a boys soccer match Thursday. Eli Kinley assisted the game tying goal after Grant Handley had put the Colts (1-0-1) ahead with a goal on a header, assisted by Chase Endicott, only three minutes before.

Wynford improves to 2-0 in N10

BUCYRUS — Wynford moved to 2-0 in Northern 10 Athletic Conference play with a 25-16, 21-25, 25-19, 25-12 victory against Ridgedale on Thursday. Freshmen Dani Gleespen and Mckinley Britton had five kills each for the Rockets (0-2, 0-1 N10).

Carey JV golf takes 2nd in tri

CAREY — Carey’s junior varsity golf team split in a tri-match Thursday, shooting a 213. Liberty-Benton scored a 169 that would beat most varsity teams, while North Baltimore finished with a 260.
