U.S. Navy Seaman Dakota McClelland

An Upper Sandusky native has returned from his first deployment in Operation Inherent Resolve. U.S. Navy Seaman Dakota McClelland, a 2014 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois.

USEVSD announces open houses

The Upper Sandusky Exempted Village School District has set the dates for its elementary, middle and high school open houses. Upper Sandusky elementary school open house dates and times are 6:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at East Elementary School; 5 p.m. Aug. 16 at Union Elementary School; and 6:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at South Elementary School.

School supply drive underway

As part of its ongoing mission to support families in Wyandot County, Open Door Resource Center is sponsoring a school supply drive for local students again this year. Supplies collected during this drive will be distributed to parents from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 9 at Open Door, located at 212 W. Wyandot Ave.

Straw bale house open for touring

TIFFIN — Tours of the straw bale house at the Franciscan Earth Literacy Center in Tiffin are offered the second Sunday of each month. Also called Little Portion Green, the straw bale house is open for tours and home-cooked lunches using local foods for a freewill donation on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Beau Andrew Welly

Erin L. and Andrew J. Welly, of Forest, are the parents of a boy, Beau Andrew Welly. He was born at 5:26 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. He weighed 9 pounds, 5.6 ounces and was 21.5 inches long. The maternal grandparents are Van and Cindy Rothlisberger. The paternal grandparents are James and Diane Welly.
