Royals downed in overtime

BUCYRUS — Josh Crall scored 30 points but it was not quite enough as Wynford fell 63-59 to Margaretta in overtime on Saturday evening. The Polar Bears (2-0) made 14 of 17 free throws in the game and outscored the Royals (0-2) 12-8 in the extra period.

USV wins big over Riverdale

McGUFFEY — The Riverdale boys basketball team dropped its second consecutive game with a 81-45 loss to Upper Scioto Valley on Saturday at Upper Scioto Valley High School. The Rams outscored the Falcons 19-9, 18-13, 28-9 and 16-14 in each of the four quarters.

Arcadia runs away with 53-27 win

ARCADIA — Scoring in double figures in the first three quarters, the Arcadia girls basketball team cruised to a 53-27 victory over Carey on Saturday at Arcadia High School. The Redskins outscored the Blue Devils 14-4 in the first quarter, 13-7 in the second quarter and 20-5 in the third quarter.

CAREY — The Carey boys basketball team opened its regular season with a non-conference game against area rival Riverdale and the game didn’t disappoint. Both teams traded big swings of momentum with Riverdale having an opportunity to tie the game in the final 10 seconds, but the Falcons fell just short as Carey won 55-52.

Upper runs away from Willard

WILLARD — Upper Sandusky has plenty of options offensively, so when its defense buckles down this year like it did late in the second quarter, the Rams are hard to stop. They closed the first half on a big run and cruised to an 83-59 victory against Willard to open the season Friday night.

RICHWOOD — Most of the night, Wynford did everything it needed to do on defense to perfection except get rebounds. North Union’s 12 second-chance points were enough to win a defensive battle 43-35 to open the boys basketball season Friday night.

Mohawk edged by Lakota in opener

SYCAMORE —The Mohawk girls basketball team kicked off its regular season by hosting Lakota on Thursday night in a non-conference game. The Warriors were able to hang close throughout the contest, but size played a big part in Lakota’s 38-31 victory.
