League championships make up top stories of 2015

Conference championships and state appearances made up the majority of Wyandot County’s top sports stories of the year in 2015. For some teams, it was repeated success that made the accomplishments most significant. For others, it was a first-time feat to celebrate. The top stories were voted on by The Daily Chief-Union sports writers.

Vent’s 32 points spark Rams to win

BUCYRUS — Wes Vent gave the Rams an early spark, and the Upper Sandusky offense picked up Wednesday where it left off in its first game in a week: an 86-68 Northern 10 Athletic Conference win at Wynford on Wednesday. Defensively, there was room for improvement.

Britton makes plays in 4th quarter

SYCAMORE — Through three quarters, offense was hard to come by, but when Mohawk made a run, Ridgedale was able counter with Mo Britton. The only senior in the Rockets’ regular rotation, Britton scored 13 of his game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter, and Ridgedale pulled out a 42-36 road victory Wednesday night.

Early 2nd-half run Rams pull away

A pair of buckets off quick sets to start the second half gave the Rams offense a shot of adrenaline in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game against Colonel Crawford on Tuesday. More importantly, the second one got Abigail Fogle going.

Mohawk’s Draper finishes 4th at GMVWA tourney

FAIRBORN — Cole Draper placed fourth to lead Mohawk in the conclusion of the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association tournament Tuesday at Wright State University’s Nutter Center. The Warriors finished 15th with 53.5 points among Division II and III teams in the 57-team tournament that featured mostly Division I schools.
