Wharton Festival winners announced

WHARTON — The Wharton Festival was a success after a two-year hiatus thanks to many volunteers, sponsors, the park board and the festival committee of Kathy Odegard and Jesse Passet. The 3-on-3 basketball tournament was sponsored by The First Citizens National Bank.

Help available to beat the heat

FINDLAY — Weather reports indicate that temperatures will reach almost 90 degrees in the coming days. The Hardin Hancock Wyandot Putnam Community Action Commission and the Ohio Development Services Agency are teaming up to remind Ohioans that help is available to stay cool during these hot summer days.

Prevent Blindness: Add eye health to back-to-school checklist for youth returning to classroom this fall

COLUMBUS — The Ohio affiliate of Prevent Blindness, the nation’s leading volunteer eye health and safety organization, is encouraging parents to add “get my child’s eyes checked” to their back-to-school list of things to do. Prevent Blindness has declared August as Children’s Eye Health and Safety Awareness Month to inspire parents to make their child’s vision health a priority.

The following report was prepared and submitted by the Wyandot County Humane Society on July 28 and is correct as of that date: Pets reported as missing since the previous report that have not been found include a neutered male tri-color hound, a gray female shih tzu, a white and black neutered male cat, a white and black male Jack Russell terrier, a black and white older female husky, a yellow tiger and white neutered male cat and a small yellow kitten.

Upper Sandusky school open houses slated

The Upper Sandusky Exempted Village School District has set the dates for its elementary, middle and high school open houses. Upper Sandusky elementary school open house dates and times are 6:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at East Elementary School; 6 p.m. Aug. 16 at Union Elementary School; and 6:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at South Elementary School.
