Upper Sandusky will play in a Division III boys basketball sectional final at 8 p.m. March 1 at Monroeville. It will be a split session. The first game will feature the winner of New London and Huron against Western Reserve at 6:15 p.m.

The Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame’s ninth annual banquet is April 20 at the Masters’ Building at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds. Michael Dennis, Tim Gebhardt, Ed Hahn, Conrad Walcutt, Jon Wells, Jack West and the 2011 Wyandot County Indians basketball team will be inducted in the class of 2019.

BASCOM — Josh Crall’s heavily contested layup attempt before the second overtime buzzer came up short, and Wynford found itself in a familiar position Tuesday night, losing a game it had an opportunity to win. Crall scored 34 points, including 17 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, but Ashland Crestview rallied from an early deficit and then held on in double overtime 55-54 in a Division III sectional semifinal game at Hopewell-Loudon.

Not many distance runners are pole vaulters in the spring. But Upper Sandusky High School’s Madelyn Shasteen not only has run cross country in the fall and several running events in track and field, she has been a state qualifier in the pole vault as well.

CAREY — Led by Anthony Bell’s 41 points, top-seeded Carey beat No. 2 seed Mohawk 74-63 in the championship of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball tournament Saturday at Carey. Also scoring for the Blue Devils (21-1) were Ashton Hill with 15 points, Collin Ferguson with 9 points, Derek Lonsway with 4 points, Cameron Pahl with 2 point, Riley Brooks with 2 points and Easton Korody with 1 point.

Riverdale’s Alec Loveridge was named a second-team All-Blanchard Valley Conference selection on Monday. The Falcons’ Seth McElree and Brock Davis earned honorable mention. Loveridge, a senior guard, averages 12.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.

TIFFIN — The first organizational meeting for all coaches in the Sen-San-Wyan girls softball league is 7 p.m. March 6 in the Upper Room at St. Joseph Activity Center on Melmore Street in Tiffin. This instructional league is open to all girls in the surrounding areas and no girl will be denied participation on their home team.

NORWALK — Maybe this is the start of a new streak of consecutive sectional titles. On Saturday at Norwalk, Wynford won its first sectional title since the 2014-15 season with a 52-37 victory over Danbury in a Division IV sectional final.
