Falcons top Hornets to win 6th straight

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale boys basketball team’s winning streak has now eclipsed their win totals each of the last two seasons. Thanks to a second quarter in which the Falcons outscored the Cory-Rawson Hornets by 12 and a third quarter in which they outscored them by 10, the Falcons overcame sluggish first and fourth quarters with a 59-51 victory over the Hornets on Friday at Riverdale.

CAREY — The Carey girls basketball team got off to a tremendous start against Northern 10 Athletic Conference second-place team Buckeye Central Friday night before running out of steam in a hard-fought 58-42 loss at Carey.

The Upper Sandusky varsity cheerleading team took first place in the large varsity division and was awarded grand champion for high points over all participating teams in the Melinda K. Justice Winter Cheer Extravaganza on Sunday at Riverdale.

Weather causes postponements

Games Wednesday and Thursday have been postponed. The Carey at Colonel Crawford boys basketball game has been moved to 6 p.m. Feb. 18. The Buckeye Central at Mohawk boys basketball game now is scheduled for Feb. 14. Wynford’s girls basketball game at Ashland Crestview and Upper Sandusky’s boys basketball game at Bellevue have been postponed but not rescheduled yet.

Wynford’s pressure too much for Mohawk girls

SYCAMORE — The Mohawk girls basketball team’s goal was to only turn the ball over a total of 10 times. Wynford had other ideas. Using their full-court press and zone defense in the half court, the Royals forced eight turnovers in the first three minutes of the game and 22 turnovers on the night in their 56-33 victory over Mohawk on Tuesday at Mohawk High School.
