ATTICA — Mohawk’s girls and boys both took fourth, while both of Carey’s teams were sixth in the season-opening Tiger Invitational track and field meet Saturday at Seneca East. Oak Harbor topped New London, 175-130, for the girls championship, while the Rockets edged the Wildcats, 149-126, for the boys title.

BELLEVUE — Each team rallied once in the seventh inning in a season-opening softball split between Upper Sandusky and Bellevue on Saturday at Bellevue. The Rams scored six times in the top of the seventh inning in the opening game to take a 9-7 victory, while Skylar Reed’s three-run walk-off home run with one out in the bottom of the seventh in the second game gave the Redmen a 6-5 victory.

BELLEVUE — Upper Sandusky lost two shortened non-league baseball games to open its season Saturday, falling 10-0 in five innings to Edison before dropping a 10-0, six-inning game against Bellevue. Clay Cooper was the winning pitcher for Edison, allowing four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in five innings.

Upper Sandusky’s junior varsity softball team split with Bellevue on Saturday, scoring 11 times in the bottom of the seventh to win the high-scoring opener, 26-25, and then dropping a 14-9 decision in five innings in the second game.

Last weekend was a good one for the Walton family. Brandt Walton defeated his son Kory on the way to wrapping up his fifth Match Game Invitational at Wyandot Lanes, but the chip off the block would only be upstaged for a short time Sunday.

For the second year in a row, Upper Sandusky’s Wes Vent and Jeff Winslow took top honors on the All-Daily Chief-Union boys basketball team. Vent was tabbed the player of the year, while Winslow was picked as coach of the year.

St. Paul Lutheran Church 1 won the season-ending Wyandot County Church Dartball League tournament by going 4-1 and edging regular-season champion St. Paul 2.

Upper Sandusky High School and SportsCare at Wyandot Memorial Hospital are offering athletic physicals May 30 in the USHS gymnasium. WMH staff and local chiropractors and optometrists will provide physical exams for a $15 donation to the athletic department to be used for the purchase of supplies.

Fairhaven Community will be sponsoring a chicken barbecue drive-thru fundraiser from 4:30-6:30 p.m. April 19 with all proceeds supporting the Upper Sandusky High School athletic department. Meals include half a chicken, bacon and cheese scalloped potatoes, green beans and a roll. The cost is $8.50.
