Carey wins 5th straight

KANSAS — Carey won its fifth in a row with a 6-2 victory against Lakota in a nonconference softball game Thursday on the road.

Julia Brodman doubled, singled twice and scored two runs to lead the way. Kenzie Simons also had three hits and an RBI. Rylee Row had a pair of singles and drove in a run, while Kynlee Phillips tripled and scored twice.

The Blue Devils (12-3) scored twice each in the first and fifth innings and once each in the fourth and sixth innings. The Raiders scored single runs in the first and seventh innings.

Simons (12-2) gave up just one earned run on four hits and three walks with nine strikeouts.

Christina Lopez paced Lakota with two hits.

Emma Jurovcik took the loss, allowing four earned runs on nine hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Carey hits the road to face Sylvania Southview at 5 p.m. today.
