Upper girls top Ashland, 94-68

ASHLAND — The Upper Sandusky girls swimming teams defeated Ashland, 94-68, while the boys lost, 102-66, on Thursday at Ashland University. “Ashland’s boys team has a good group of state level competitors and it was good to give our swimmers experience swimming against that level of competition,” Upper Sandusky coach Justin Richardson said in an email.

USMS teams sweep Bucyrus

BUCYRUS — The Upper Sandusky eighth grade boys basketball team defeated Bucyrus, 39-31, on Thursday. Trenton Beamer led the Rams (3-1) with 12 points, while Zach Sheaffer scored 9 points.

Food drive to be held next week at USMS

Upper Sandusky Middle School is hosting a food drive twice next week. Those who bring in five nonperishable food items for a local food pantry will be admitted free to the Rams’ boys home basketball game against Mohawk on Dec. 11 and to the girls home basketball games against Wynford on Dec. 14.

Mohawk DT Theis, Carey coach Mershman take top DC-U honors

Mohawk’s Nick Theis was named player of the year, and Carey’s Jonathon Mershman was tabbed coach of the year on The All-Daily Chief-Union football team. Theis, a senior defensive tackle, was the Northern 10 Athletic Conference’s defensive player of the year and an all-district second-team pick after he finished the season with 78 tackles, including 22 for loss and 7.5 sacks.
