The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District recently held its 72nd annual meeting in combination with the Crawford County Farm Bureau’s annual meeting.

Carey FFA officers recently went to Peebles for their annual officer retreat. Officers participated in many things from team-building exercises to late-night card games.

The Gottfried Nature Center will have an open house from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 15 to mark the 25th anniversary of the nature center. The Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District owns and operates the nature center in Upper Sandusky located across from the Wyandot County Humane Society.

BUCYRUS — Patrick Hord, president of Hord Family Farms, will be the guest speaker for the Interdenominational Men’s Breakfast at 7 a.m. Oct. 11 at the Bucyrus Community Hospital Cafeteria. Women are invited to be guests. Hord Family Farms consists of over 100 years of farming heritage.

Wade Vaughn and Gary Walter each have been nominated in Local Administrative Area 2 in Wyandot County to serve as a committee member. LAA No. 2 consists of Crane, Eden, Richland and Salem townships.

The National FFA Organization awarded a $5,000 Georgia M. Hellberg Memorial Scholarship to Annika Gerlach of the Wynford FFA. The scholarship is sponsored by the Georgia M. Hellberg Memorial Fund.

COLUMBUS — Greg and Rose Hartschuh of Sycamore have been named winners of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s 2017 Excellence in Agriculture Award. The award recognizes successful young agricultural professionals who are actively contributing and growing through their involvement with Farm Bureau and agriculture.

The Agricultural Act of 2014 provides for payments for covered commodities through the Price Loss Coverage (PLC) program when the market year average price is below the reference price.

Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a workshop series that will highlight a few unique operations around Crawford County in the conservation and ag fields. The public is invited to attend one or both of the workshops in the Neighbor to Neighbor Conservation Series.

Farm Service Agency county committees are a critical component of the day-to-day operations of the FSA and allow grassroots input and local administration of federal farm programs. Farmers and ranchers who are elected to serve on FSA county committees apply their judgment and knowledge to help with the decisions necessary to administer FSA programs in their counties, ensuring the needs of local producers are met.
