The Tractor Supply Company Mobile Fair Tour is looking for Ohio 4-H and FFA youth who showcase what it means to be a great neighbor. Originating last year, the Great Neighbor essay contest is an experiential component of the retailer’s Mobile Fair Tour, a 24-stop journey across the United States that will begin its route June 1 in Kentucky and concludes Nov. 10 in Nevada.

FFA is more than just cows, sows and plows. In class, students learn about the science involved in agriculture as well as the business side of agriculture and the surrounding environment that influences agriculture.

Agricultural producers are reminded to consult with the FSA and NRCS before breaking out new ground for production purposes as doing so without prior authorization may put a producer’s federal farm program benefits in jeopardy.

The week of March 19 was National Ag Week. The week is used to recognize and celebrate the abundance that agriculture provides.

The Wyandot County Commissioners voted Thursday to move forward with a proposed Cano-Harpster tile petition project during a public hearing at Gottfied Nature Center. Jeff Hohman of Wyandot County Soil and Water Department led the meeting.

In the past, aesthetic mowing of CRP grass cover was a widely accepted practice by many participants. Today with more research and understanding, it has been shown that properly managed grass cover will reduce soil erosion, improve water quality and is more beneficial to wildlife than annually mowed grass covers.

CAREY — Over the past month, Carey FFA members have been conquering one of the most feared things to people: public speaking. First-year members learned and recited the FFA Creed on their way to earning Greenhand FFA Degrees.

The Wyandot County FSA County Office Committee (COC) has named Deb Rellinger, of Upper Sandusky, as COC adviser. Advisers play an important role by providing diverse viewpoints and by representing the interests of minorities and women in decisions made by county committees.

FOSTORIA — AgCredit is hosting four farm transition seminars across northwest and north central Ohio to help provide guidance and tools to start the conversation about farm transition. David Marrison and Emily Adams, of the Ohio State University Extension, will discuss how to have productive, positive conversations and meetings about difficult issues.
