Carey steals 2nd set but falls to Buckeye

NEW WASHINGTON — Carey won a back-and-forth second set but Buckeye Central controlled the other three to stay unbeaten in Northern 10 Athletic Conference volleyball play with a 25-16, 27-29, 25-16, 25-15 victory Tuesday night in New Washington.

Buckeye Central (7-3, 6-0 N10) pulled into the lead in the second set, 22-21, before three straight points by Carey (3-7, 2-4 N10) gave it a chance to put it away.

Buckeye Central came back with three straight points for a 25-24 lead, but the Blue Devils were able to rally again.

“We are starting to come into our own defensively and were controlling the ball on offense,” Carey coach Stacy Bell said.

“We put up a good fight and are looking forward to playing Buckeye again.”

McKenzie Row led Carey with 11 kills, nine digs and two aces.

Sadie Arend had eight kills, two aces and two blocks, and Bailey Tanner finished with four kills and a pair of blocks. Emma Wagner tallied 23 assists and eight digs.

Lexi Evak paced Buckeye Central with 14 kills and three blocks.

The Buckettes won the junior varsity match, 25-16, 25-15.

Carey plays at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Ridgedale.
