Upper Sandusky’s soccer star Grace Walton was awarded with the Senior Excellence Award from the United Soccer Coaches on Wednesday.

“It’s an award that is given to seniors who give significant impact to their team,” Upper Sandusky coach Ty Calvin said. “It’s pretty well summed up by the numbers she put up for goals, assists and all that.”

Walton said she wouldn’t have been able to achieve all she has been able to do without her teammates and credits Brooke Finscally and Shiloh Shasteen with her high assist numbers.

“I know it’s pretty cliche, but I have a lot of great teammates,” Walton said. “I know I get credit with the assists, but I mean Brooke and Shiloh, but Brooke mostly finished all those goals. She is a phenomenal athlete; she tore her ACL, which sucked, and my assist numbers went down a little bit, so it was pretty obvious we had a pretty good dynamic and I give a lot of credit to them.”

Soccer has always been an escape for Walton where she can just relax and have fun.

“I have so much fun playing soccer,” Walton said. “I look forward to soccer season every year. I play basketball too and I would say that gets more stressful. Soccer is just where I relax and just have fun.”

Walton leaves Upper Sandusky with a strong legacy as she leads the Rams in every assist category with the most assists in a game (6), season (22) and career (58). She also scored 30 goals in her career.

“I think she set a good standard for players,” Calvin said. “Those records are going to be held for a long time.”
