24 area plays named all-district

Eight area players were named first-team All-Northwest district in football, and 16 more were named to the second team or given honorable mention. Mohawk’s Zach Hayman, Cole Zender and Bryce Kirian, Carey’s Jacob Boes and Adam Hackworth, Wynford’s Gavin Leffler and Seth Benedict and Riverdale’s Alec Loveridge all were voted by a media panel to the first team.

Mohawk’s Chester, Hoover take top honors

All-Daily Chief-Union volleyball 2018

Mohawk’s Madi Chester and Eric Hoover took top honors on the All-Daily Chief-Union volleyball team with Chester being voted the player of the year and Hoover the coach of the year. Chester, a senior outside hitter, also was the Northern 10 Athletic Conference player of the year, an all-district first-team selection and an All-Ohio second-team pick.

It’s been quite a career. Throughout the years that Upper Sandusky native Rosemary Austin has played on travel softball teams that include Golden Gals and Freedom Spirit, a 75 and older softball team, she has garnered 14 gold medals, 12 sliver medals, two bronze medals, one ribbon, seven All-American awards as well as two all-tournament and one best defensive player, seven plaques, nine patches and one cup.

The Northwest Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association has announced its boys soccer award winners, including the all-district teams, with Riverdale’s Coby Miller earning first-team honors in Division III and Upper Sandusky’s Jaidyn Thiel receiving second-team honors in Division II. Miller, a junior forward, led the Falcons in goals with nine and points with 22. He had four assists.

Oney, Rothlisberger named to all-district 2nd team

Upper Sandusky’s Alivia Oney and Riverdale’s Alex Rothlisberger both were second-team selections to the all-district team by the Northwest Ohio Scholastic Coaches Association. Oney, a senior midfielder, tied for the team lead with eight assists and scored six goals to finish second on the Rams with 20 points. Rothlisberger, a senior defender, had four goals and four assists for 12 points.

Upper Sandusky boys, Buckeye Central girls picked to repeat

High expectations again

WILLARD — Upper Sandusky’s boys and Buckeye Central’s girls were picked to repeat as Northern 10 Athletic Conference basketball champions during a media vote Thursday evening in Willard. Winners of three straight N10 championships, the Rams, 19-4 overall and 15-1 in the N10 last year, garnered all eight first-place votes for a total of 360 points in the poll.

Coach Jeff Winslow and the Upper Sandusky boys basketball team had a Moms/Sons practice Saturday at the high school with many mothers taking part along with their sons.
