Upper 7th grade teams pick up victories

Erin Merriman scored 13 points to lead the Upper Sandusky seventh grade girls basketball team to a 35-11 victory against Buckeye Central on Monday. Grace Metzger, Ryleigh Haas, Bailey Fox, Mazzy Shoemaker and Sophia Nichols all had 4 points.

Vent scores 31 points in Upper victory against Columbian

Mason Vent scored 31 points on Saturday night and yet Upper Sandusky coach Jeff Winslow said it was not his best effort. It was, however, more than enough to lead the Rams to an 83-62 victory against Tiffin Columbian. The Upper Sandusky junior forward has 60 points in his first two games after scoring 29 in the season opener Friday night. “Not that he played bad, but it wasn’t one of his better games,” Winslow said.

Van Buren defeats Carey 61-51

CAREY — Hayden Stone had 19 points and 12 rebounds but it was not enough as Carey fell 61-51 to Van Buren on Saturday evening at Carey. Nick McCracken led the Black Knights (1-0) with 13 points in their season opener. Carson Goble finished with 11 points.

Mohawk’s Clouse wins Derr 220-pound title

NORTHWOOD — Mohawk’s James Clouse won the 220-pound championship this weekend at the Jim Derr Invitational wrestling tournament at Northwood. The Warriors also got a second-place finish at 195 pounds from Kaleb Leeth and finished 14th as a team. Riverdale tied for 24th place.

Royals downed in overtime

BUCYRUS — Josh Crall scored 30 points but it was not quite enough as Wynford fell 63-59 to Margaretta in overtime on Saturday evening. The Polar Bears (2-0) made 14 of 17 free throws in the game and outscored the Royals (0-2) 12-8 in the extra period.
