If you are the mother or father of a high school athlete here in Ohio, this message is primarily for you. When you attend an athletic event that involves your son or daughter, cheer to your heart’s content, enjoy the camaraderie that high school sports offer and have fun.

The Upper Sandusky girls soccer coaching staff is providing Sunday Night Soccer winter training for girls in third through eighth grades. The sessions are 6-8 p.m. Sundays through March 24 (excluding Feb. 3) in the Upper Sandusky High School gym. Sessions are free.

BUCYRUS — Wynford will host a military appreciation night on Friday during the boys basketball game against Buckeye Central. All veterans and current service members from both communities will be given courtesy admission to the game, a complementary concessions voucher and an opportunity to be recognized between the first and second quarters of the varsity contest as a “thank you” for service.

Spring registration for Upper Sandusky Youth Soccer is upcoming. Times and dates to register are 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Beca House, 6-8 p.m. Jan. 23 at 9 Flags Pizza and 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 26 at Beca House.

The OHSAA has deemed Friday as military appreciation night at high schools across the state of Ohio.  Upper Sandusky Middle School is a willing participant in this program, and while it does not have a game Friday, nor is it a high school, it still will honor military, both past and present.

ATTICA — The Upper Sandusky eighth grade boys basketball team rolled past Seneca East 56-26 on Monday. Keagan Iles led the Rams (11-1) with 19 points.

CAREY — It didn’t take Carey High School junior Tanner May long to secure his place in Carey High School wrestling history. May, who had a first-round bye in the Carey Classic on Saturday at Carey High School, faced Fostoria’s Aaron Johnson in the second round, where he pinned Johnson at the 41-second mark. With the victory, May became the youngest wrestler in the history of the Carey High School wrestling program to win the 100th match of his high school wrestling career.

Upper Sandusky used a flurry of 3-pointers early to build a lead, and after Josh Crall rallied Wynford back into the game, the Rams used defense and post offense to put the Royals away 69-54 in Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball play Saturday night. The Rams buried 10 treys in the first half, including seven in the first quarter, to take a 44-32 halftime lead.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — A 9-0 run to end the second quarter gave Riverdale the lead for good against Ridgemont on Saturday night. And after gaining some more separation in the third quarter, the Falcons were able to hold on to a 68-56 non-conference boys basketball win on Saturday night.

MORRAL — Mohawk built a lead with a big second quarter and held off Ridgedale with strong free throw shooting in a 56-44 victory in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game Saturday night. The Warriors (2-10, 2-6 N10) led 9-8 after one quarter and scored 23 points in the second quarter to move ahead 32-19.
