FINDLAY — Arlington took control of the paint on both ends of the floor from the opening tip and Riverdale’s outside shooting was not on target often enough to keep pace as the Red Devils pulled away for a 58-35 victory in a Division IV district semifinal game Tuesday night at Findlay.

SYCAMORE — In a sibling rivalry, Morgan Price has a chance to get an edge on his older brothers. The Mohawk junior is the third of his brothers to qualify for the state tournament, and he is hoping to become the first of them to place when he heads to Columbus this weekend.

Upper Sandusky’s Alexis Fogle and Wynford’s Olivia Grove earned All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball first-team honors released Monday. Fogle, a senior guard, is the N10’s leading scorer at 15.0 points per game and is first in steals at 3.8 per game.

KANSAS — With a dominant performance all weekend, Tanner May became Carey’s first district champion in a least a couple of decades on Saturday. May pinned Norwalk St. Paul’s Camden Caizzo in 2:35 in the 182-pound first-place match in the Division III district tournament at Lakota and will be making his third state appearance. Mohawk’s Morgan Price also is headed to state as a fourth-place finisher at 145 pounds, and the Warriors’ Caden Gurney is a state alternate after taking fifth place at 132 pounds.

NORWALK — Sure, the 2018-19 wrestling season may have ended sooner than three members of the Upper Sandusky wrestling team hoped it would. But the improvements they made as the season progressed, along with the fact they will all return next season, are what Upper Sandusky coach Noah Blankenship reflected on at the conclusion of the second day of the Division II district wrestling tournament Saturday at Norwalk.

Top seeds Don McLaughlin, Jim Stansbery and Dave Ross, along with Roger Ball, are into the championship bracket semifinals of the Wyandot Match Game bowling invitational at Wyandot Lanes. The first two rounds of the double-elimination tournament were held over the weekend, and mostly went as expected.

Pre-sale tickets are available at schools for this week’s district tournament games. Upper Sandusky is selling tickets from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Tuesday and 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in the high school athletic office. No pre-sale tickets will be available after that.

BLUFFTON — Riverdale is celebrating like its 1987. The Falcons won their first boys basketball sectional championship in 32 years with a 50-28 blowout of Leipsic in a Division IV sectional final game Friday at Bluffton University.

MONROEVILLE — Upper Sandusky found out the hard way last year not to take sectional championships for granted. Eliminated in their first game last season, the Rams made sure that did not happen again, leading from start to finish in a 71-53 victory against Fostoria in a Division III sectional final game Friday night at Monroeville.

BASCOM — The Carey boys basketball team was planning to use a box-and-one defensive formation for all or most of the night against the Oak Harbor boys basketball team, but only used it in two possessions. Its man-to-man defense was stifling enough.
