NORTH ROBINSON — Coach David Sheldon did not have to do anything to get his team mentally prepared for Friday night’s rematch with Upper Sandusky. After the Eagles lost a heartbreaker at the buzzer in the first matchup, they were ready for another down-to-the-wire finish, and this time, they came out on top 47-46 at Mac Morrison Gymnasium.

BUCYRUS — If Buckeye Central had any hope of mounting a comeback against Wynford in Friday night’s Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys varsity basketball game, Josh Crall removed all doubt in the first minute of the second half.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — One year ago, the Riverdale boys basketball team had only won two games before Jan. 19. This year, the Falcons have more than quadrupled that win total.

CAREY — The Carey boys basketball team raced out to a 17-point halftime lead and never looked back on the way to a 75-43 victory over Seneca East on Friday at Carey. The Blue Devils (8-4, 6-2 Northern 10 Athletic Conference) outscored the Tigers 16-7 in the first quarter, 18-10 in the second quarter, 21-18 in the third quarter and 20-8 in the fourth quarter.

BUCYRUS — Only 27 seconds had passed when Wynford junior guard Rylee Alspach, who is second in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference in average number of steals per game, forced the game’s first turnover by getting a steal in the Royals’ full-court press.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale had all the momentum early in the second quarter, but McComb turned the tide and finally pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 48-35 victory in a Blanchard Valley Conference girls basketball game Thursday night.

McCUTCHENVILLE — Kaleb Swavel hit grand slams in each of the first two games to help Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church C win the series against first-place Trinity United Church of Christ of McCutchenville with 6-2 and 3-1 wins and a 7-5 loss on Thursday in Wyandot County Church Dartball play.

The Upper Sandusky eighth grade girls basketball team routed Bucyrus 42-9 on Thursday. Lauren Schoenberger led the Rams with 11 points.

Upper Sandusky has cancelled all athletic events for Saturday and Sunday, including youth basketball and indoor soccer. The Upper Sandusky girls basketball game against Carey has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 7 at Carey.

BELLEVUE — Trailing by 13 with 4:51 remaining in the first half, it wasn’t only the Bellevue girls basketball team’s defensive pressure, trapping and speed in the full-court press and half court that worried the Upper Sandusky Rams.
