Upper Sandusky boys win sectional title; Rams send 13 to districts

DEFIANCE — Upper Sandusky qualified 13 different swimmers in 17 events for districts, broke numerous school records and won the boys championship during sectional competition Saturday at Ayersville. Abbey Wenger, Kami Swartz, Katie Conley, Cali Andres, Trever Daughenbaugh, Will Barnes and Quin Voorhees all qualified to swim at Bowling Green on Friday in individual district events as well as relays, and Maya Collins, Addison Byrne, Brody Williams, Gage Frey and Jacob Newsome join them in relays.

Rams hold off Warriors with strong defense

SYCAMORE — Upper Sandusky did not have it on offense on Saturday afternoon, but it did enough on defense to hold off Mohawk 38-32 in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game at Mohawk. The Rams used a 7-0 run at the end of the third though the start of the fourth quarter to take control after the Warriors tied the score, and that was enough.

BUCYRUS — Upper Sandusky forced Bucyrus turnovers on the first five possessions, and it was a sign of things to come Saturday night. The Rams suffocated the Redmen and blew them away 89-37 in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball game.

CAREY — The first time the Buckeye Central boys basketball team faced the Carey Blue Devils, Carey center Hayden Stone was held under 10 points. Buckeye Central coach Eric Picklesimer credited the play of play of their defense, which had a lot of help on the backside, in limiting his chances in the first matchup.

Mohawk gets No. 1 seed in district tournament

Mohawk earned the No. 1 seed in the Division IV Fostoria district, while Upper Sandusky is the No. 2 seed in the Division III Norwalk boys basketball district. Draws were held Sunday, with the Warriors (17-1) opting into the Carey sectional final’s second game to be played at 8 p.m. March 1.

Blue Devils defeat Rockets

CAREY — Thanks to a fourth quarter in which the Carey girls basketball team outscored Ridgedale by 9 points, the Blue Devils defeated the Rockets 55-41 in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game on Saturday. The Blue Devils (5-15, 5-10 N10) were led by Hannah Lonsway, who scored 14 points, and Sadie Arend, who scored 12.
