Warriors win to stay within striking distance

Did the Mohawk baseball team panic when the Wynford baseball team nearly erased the Warriors’ early three-run lead? Nope. Thanks to timely hitting and Mohawk’s Cole Widmer’s pitching, the Warriors added three more runs — two in the fifth and another in the top of the seventh — to pull away for a 6-2 victory over Wynford on Thursday at Wynford.

Upper uses 4-run inning to beat Seneca East 6-3

Upper Sandusky strung together six straight two-out hits in a four-run third inning and took a 6-3 victory against Seneca East in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball game Thursday at Upper Sandusky. With the game tied at 1, Alivia Oney tripled and scored on an Alexis Fogle double to put the Rams ahead 2-1. Reagan Ward followed with an RBI single.

Riverdale blasts W-G 14-4

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Thanks to a four-run third inning and a six-run fourth, the Riverdale softball team cruised to a 14-4 run-rule victory over Waynesfield-Goshen on Thursday at Riverdale. The Falcons (8-3) fell behind the Tigers 2-0 after the top of the first inning, but scored a run in the bottom of the first and added another in the second to tie the game.

Mohawk offense explodes in 12-0 win

BUCYRUS — Mohawk’s league-leading offense exploded in a 12-0 victory against Wynford in Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball action Thursday at Wynford. The Warriors (8-4, 4-4 N10) scored six times in the second inning and three times each in the third and fourth innings.

Carey girls 4th, boys 5th at Waynesfield

WAYNESFIELD — Carey’s girls took fourth and the boys tied for fifth Thursday in the Tiger Invitational track and field meet at Waynesfield-Goshen. Spencerville was the girls winner 129-112.5 over Benjamin Logan. Lima Bath finished third over Carey 106-65.5. In the boys competition, Benjamin Logan topped Indian Lake 158-131 for first place. Carey tied Parkway with 60 points.

Falcons overwhelm Tigers in 14-4 victory

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Leading by nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Seth McElree hit a walk-off single to give the Falcons a 12-2 run-rule victory over Waynesfield-Goshen on Thursday at Riverdale. The Falcons took an early 4-0 lead after the first inning and added another run in the second before scoring two runs in the third and fourth innings and three in the bottom of the fifth.

Carey crushes 3 home runs in 12-1 victory against Wynford

BUCYRUS — This wasn’t the first time that Carey junior shortstop Hailey Niederkohr hit a home run to lead off the game. On Wednesday, Niederkohr, hitting lead off once again, crushed the first pitch she saw from Wynford pitcher Hannah Messmer over the fence in right center, setting the tone for a day in which the Carey softball team hit three home runs in their 12-1 run-rule victory over Wynford in six innings at Wynford.

BUCYRUS — A young Carey baseball team grew up a little Wednesday. Rather than folding when it lost an early lead, the Blue Devils buckled down and won their first Northern 10 Athletic Conference game by rallying for a 9-6 road victory against Wynford.

BUCYRUS — After watching its two-run lead slip away in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Mohawk baseball team wasted little time getting it back. After Tanner Osborn led off with a walk, Wyatt Swartz hit a one-out single to put the tying and winning runs on base.

Upper run rules Buckeye 13-3

Brenyn Marquart had three hits and two RBIs and scored two runs as Upper Sandusky topped Buckeye Central 13-3 in six innings in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference baseball game Wednesday at Upper Sandusky. Diago Cazares, Keaton Cunningham, Cole Sowers and Jason Holly had two hits each for the Rams (12-2, 8-0 N10).
