Oswalt shuts down Falcons

BASCOM — Hopewell-Loudon had a pair of big innings to beat Riverdale 12-1 in five innings in a Blanchard Valley Conference baseball game Wednesday at Hopewell-Loudon. Trailing 1-0, the Chieftains (14-5, 7-2 BVC) scored five times in the second inning and then scored six more runs in the third inning.

BASCOM — The Hopewell-Loudon softball team clinched a share of the Blanchard Valley Conference title with a 10-1 victory over Riverdale on Wednesday at Hopewell-Loudon. After the Falcons (10-6, 6-3 BVC) scored their only run of the game in the top of the first inning, the Chieftains (15-6, 10-1 BVC) scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, three in the second and three in the fifth.

Rams hold off Chargers for 3-2 win

MILAN — In what could be a Division III district baseball championship preview, Upper Sandusky knocked off Edison 3-2 on Wednesday. The Rams (17-4) are the top seed in the Shelby district, while the Chargers (14-6) are the No. 2 seed.

ATTICA — Aubrie Harper blasted her seventh home run as Mohawk rolled to a 17-5 victory against Seneca East in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball game Wednesday at Seneca East. Harper also doubled, singled twice, drove in four runs and scored three runs for the Warriors (14-9, 7-7 N10).

BUCYRUS — With their sights set on their first conference title in 25 years, the Upper Sandusky baseball team wasted little time at Bucyrus on Tuesday. The Rams scored three runs in the first inning and 10 in the second on the way to a 15-0 run-rule victory over the Bucyrus in five innings. With the victory, the Rams clinched a share of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference title.

BUCYRUS — The Upper Sandusky boys tennis team ended its regular season with a 5-0 victory at Bucyrus on Tuesday. The Rams’ Levi Malone was a 6-4, 6-2 winner in the No. 1 singles match against Kyle Hamm, and in the No. 2 match, it was Landon-Cotto Ramos getting a win for the Rams (11-4) by beating Karsen Kimmel 6-2, 6-0. Justin Blackburn cruised in the No. 3 match, 6-0, 6-2 over John Bell.

BUCYRUS — Upper Sandusky scored in all but the first inning on its way to a 10-0 victory against Wynford in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball game Tuesday at Wynford. The Rams (15-6, 12-2 N10) led 3-0 after the second inning and 7-0 after the third inning, then scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.

CAREY — Carey scored eight times in the first inning and ran away with a 16-6 victory against Ridgedale in six innings in Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball play Tuesday at Waterworks Park. The Rockets (11-8, 4-8 N10) matched the Blue Devils (17-5, 11-3 N10) in most of the innings after that, but Carey was able to finally reach the run rule with two tallies in the fifth inning and another in the sixth.

MORRAL — Ridgedale had only two more hits than Carey but four errors led to seven unearned runs for Ridgedale in a 7-0 victory in Northern 10 Athletic Conference baseball play Tuesday at Memorial Park. The Rockets (13-6, 8-6 N10) scored a run in the second inning, three in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth.
