Mohawk wins 8th straight sectional

SYCAMORE — Sectional championships have become routine for Mohawk volleyball, and the Warriors made it look pretty simple Thursday night. Mohawk controlled each set in a 25-17, 25-18, 25-16 victory against Gibsonburg in a Division IV sectional final. It was the Warriors’ eighth straight sectional title.

LIMA — The Upper Sandusky boys soccer team did its best to stand in with Lima Shawnee on Thursday night, but the Indians eventually broke through with five goals in the final 15 minutes of the first half on the way to a 9-0 victory in a Division II sectional final victory.

Rossford advances past Upper in 5

ROSSFORD — Upper Sandusky and Rossford entered Wednesday night’s match with identical records in similarly challenging volleyball leagues. The difference in the Division II sectional semifinal was the Bulldogs’ Megan Dunne. The junior powered 27 kills and added six aces to help No. 6 seed Rossford hold off the No. 9 Rams, 15-25, 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 15-3.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — After taking advantage of two free kicks, top-seeded Riverdale carried a 2-0 lead into halftime and built on it in the second half, taking down No. 8 Allen East 7-0 in a Division III sectional final girls soccer contest Wednesday night.

Wynford giving free admission to vets Friday

BUCYRUS — Wynford High School will honor all area veterans and first responders by granting them free admission to the football game against Upper Sandusky at 7 p.m. Friday. Any veteran or first responder who provides their credentials will be admitted free at the pass gate.
