BOWLING GREEN — Next season, qualifying for districts will be an expectation, not a surprise. It was the message that Upper Sandusky tennis coach Aaron Frazee instilled in the doubles team of Grant Bower and Anson Hill following their 6-0, 6-2 loss to Clyde seniors Jacob Strudthoff and James Dry in the Division II district tennis tournament Thursday at Bowling Green State University.

FINDLAY — Riverdale’s girls 3200 relay and Tayler Ashburn in the high jump are moving on to regional competition, and the Falcons will have chances for several others to join them after the first day of Division III district competition Thursday at Findlay.

In a preview of today’s Division III sectional final, Upper Sandusky pulled away for a 12-3 victory against Wynford to wrap up both team’s regular seasons. Both teams opted to keep their top pitchers available for today when the teams will meet again at 5 p.m. at Upper Sandusky with a spot in the district tournament at stake.

TIFFIN — Trailing by two runs heading into the sixth inning, the Riverdale softball team scored four runs in the top of the sixth to pull away for a 5-3 victory over Tiffin Columbian in a nonconference softball game Thursday at Tiffin Columbian.

BUCYRUS — The Bucyrus Public Library will be closed in observance of Memorial Day on May 27. The library also will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 31 for the purpose of staff CPR/AED training in the morning and will open at 2 p.m. The library apologizes for the inconvenience.

OAK HARBOR — Upper Sandusky’s girls track and field team advanced to the finals in five events, while the boys will run again in just one event based on results from the first day of Division II district competition Wednesday at Oak Harbor.

FINDLAY — After striking out 14 times in its loss to the Carey softball team on March 26, the Bluffton softball team prepared for their rematch with the Blue Devils in the Division IV district semifinal. Although they struck out 10 fewer times and scored more than in their previous matchup with the Blue Devils, the Pirates still couldn’t overcome an early deficit.

COLLINS — Get’em on, get’em over, get’em in. In professional baseball, it is a dying art, but Wynford showed how effective small ball can be on the high school level Wednesday.

The Upper Sandusky baseball team will host Wynford in a Division III sectional final at 5 p.m. Friday. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students.

ARCADIA — Arcadia got a seventh-inning home run and put two runners in scoring position but Alison Donaugh ended the game with a strikeout to preserve a 3-2 victory for Riverdale at Arcadia on Wednesday in Blanchard Valley Conference softball play.
