Mohawk falls short at Bucyrus

SYCAMORE — Despite having one of their better performances of the season, the Mohawk girls basketball team dropped their third consecutive game in a 54-38 loss to Bucyrus on Tuesday at Mohawk High School. The Warriors (3-12, 2-9 N10) were led by freshman guard Aubrie Harper, who scored 10 points.

Rams seeded No. 1 in Region 18A

Top-seeded team

Upper Sandusky is the top seed, Mohawk is the No. 3 seed, and Carey is No. 7 in the Division III Region 18A OHSAA team dual wrestling tournament Wednesday at Mohawk. The No. 1 seed Rams have a first-round bye and will face the winner of No. 8 Liberty-Benton and No. 9 Arcadia in the junior high gym.

Upper, Riverdale drop Divisions

Dropping a division

Upper Sandusky’s football team will drop to Division V, and Riverdale will fall to Division VII as the only area sports team changing divisions this fall. The Rams traditionally have been in Division IV but were tied as the smallest school in IV this past fall with the implementation of the OHSAA’s competitive balance initiative.

The Upper Sandusky High School cheerleaders recently competed at the Ohio State University Cheer Competition and placed fifth in the medium varsity division.

Wynford freshmen top Riverdale

BUCYRUS — Wynford’s freshman boys basketball team improved to 6-0 with a 54-30 victory against Riverdale on Saturday. Toby Butterfield led the Royals with 21 points, followed by Brock Noblit with 14 points and Khaleel Berry with 11 points. Gavin Burns added 8 points.

Leuthold leads Royals to win

NORTH ROBINSON — Wynford held Colonel Crawford scoreless on its last nine possessions and took a 43-37 victory Saturday in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game. The Eagles (3-12, 2-8 N10) led 11-8 after one quarter, but the Royals (3-11, 2-8 N10) tied it at 17 at halftime.

Upper finishes 4th at Bellevue

BELLEVUE — Upper Sandusky was fourth and Mohawk finished eighth Saturday in the Bellevue Invitational junior high wrestling tournament. Braxton Johnston (150 pounds), Carson Vanhorn (172) and Creighton Morton (245) led the Rams by placing second in their weight classes.
