Shumaker’s goal the difference in Upper’s 2-1 tournament win

DEFIANCE — Upper Sandusky senior midfielder William Shumaker’s first goal of the season was the most significant goal scored Monday. With the Rams leading Defiance by a goal with less than 15 minutes remaining, Shumaker received the ball, raced down the right side of the field and, despite having a defender nearby, fired a shot into the right side of the net with 14:35 remaining in the contest.

SUNBURY — Despite three straight bogeys on the back nine and later a double-bogey on No. 16, Brett Montgomery hung tough and gave himself a shot at a state championship. A great approach on No. 18 gave him a decent look at a birdie, but it was not meant to be, and Greeneview’s Mason Witt finished a few minutes later with a par that clinched the Division II title Saturday at NorthStar Golf Club.

ATTICA — Once again, Carey’s Sarah Reinhart finished well over a minute ahead of her nearest competitor, winning by 1:39. Reinhart’s finish in 18:50.84, plus top-15 finishes from three teammates, enabled the Blue Devils to win the Northern 10 Athletic Conference championship Saturday at Seneca.

Falcons’ Kuenzli 31st at state

COLUMBUS — Riverdale junior Andrew Kuenzli finished in 31st place Saturday in the Division III state golf tournament at the Ohio State University Scarlet Course. Kuenzli followed his round of 85 on Friday with an 86 on Saturday for an overall total of 171. He was 7-over par on both the front and back nines.

Weber, Collier 4th in BVC race

FINDLAY — Riverdale’s Juleigha Collier and Eli Weber both finished fourth in the Blanchard Valley Conference Championships on Saturday at the Owens Community College Findlay campus. Collier was fourth in the girls race in 21:38.77. Teammates Liviya Benjamin and Isabella Renteria were 18th and 22nd, respectively, in 24:22.66 and 26:21.81.

Falcons tie Big Green to finish undefeated

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale finished the boys soccer regular season undefeated by playing to a scoreless draw against Ottoville on Saturday at Riverdale. The Falcons (12-0-4) managed eight shots on goal, but all of them were stopped by the Big Green’s Kaiden Trentman. Riverdale’s Ethan Shane made two saves.

Miller scores twice in win

MILLER CITY — Riverdale’s girls soccer team edged Miller City 3-2 in its regular season finale on the road Saturday. Lexi Miller scored a pair of goals for the Falcons (9-6-1), but it was Alesha Martin who had the only goal by either team in the first half, scoring only 6:04 into the match.

Rams top Stockaders 3-1

Caleb Helea scored shortly before halftime to help spark Upper Sandusky to a 3-1 victory against Old Fort in its boys soccer regular season finale Saturday at Upper Sandusky. Helea’s goal came with 1:39 remaining in the first half. Austin McLane scored with 28:16 left in the match, and two minutes later, Payton Randall scored on a free kick to make it 3-0.
