McLane scores twice in Upper win

MARION — Austin McLane scored a pair of goals as the Upper Sandusky boys soccer team topped Marion Harding 3-0 on Saturday in Marion. Jaidyn Thiel got the Rams (2-7-1) on the board first, scoring on an assist from Austin Andrews with 26:50 left in the first half. McLane scored his first goal less than four minutes later on an assist from Thiel.

Riverdale’s Coby Miller nets hat trick

GENOA — Coby Miller had a hat trick as Riverdale rolled to a 7-0 victory against Genoa in a nonconference boys soccer match Saturday at Genoa. Miller scored twice in the first half when the Falcons (6-0-3) built a 3-0 lead and once in the second half. Jackson Clark had the other goal in the first half, all of which came in the final 13 minutes before the break.

Roughriders shut out Falcons girls 2-0

ST. MARYS — St. Marys Memorial’s Madi Anthony made 12 saves to lead her team to a 2-0 shutout victory against Riverdale on Saturday in St. Marys. The Roughriders (7-2-1) got a goal from Lilly Ankerman less than nine minutes into the match, and the score remained 1-0 until Emma Wibbeler’s goal with 14:01 remaining.

Chieftains beat Falcons for 12th victory

BASCOM — Elizabeth Wells had eight kills as Hopewell-Loudon topped Riverdale 25-8, 25-15, 25-7 in a nonconference volleyball match Saturday in Bascom. Abbi Roerdink had 25 assists, and Grace Dohanyos finished with six aces for the Chieftains (12-4).

Tanner’s 86, Phillips’ 88 lead Blue Devils

ARLINGTON — Ethan Tanner shot an 86, and Kole Phillips shot a career-best round of 88 to lead Carey to a sixth-place finish Saturday in the Sycamore Springs Invitational. Brayden Miller carded a 94, and Carter Frederick finished with a 96 for the Blue Devils, who had a team score of 364. Peyton Young’s 99 did not count toward the team total.

Carey girls finish 3rd in Van Buren race

FINDLAY — Competing against a field full of bigger schools, Carey’s girls took third place Saturday in the Van Buren Invitational at Owens Community College’s Findlay campus. Findlay won the championship 51-75 over Anthony Wayne, followed by Carey with 115 points. Whitmer was the boys winner 44-75 over Findlay. The Blue Devils were 13th with 353 points, and Riverdale came in 16th with 408 points.

Mohawk girls finish 7th at Streak Invite

FREMONT — Mohawk’s girls were seventh and the boys 10th on Saturday in the St. Joseph Streak Invitational at Walsh Park in Fremont. Mohawk’s girls scored 163 points. Huron took first 56-71 over Western Reserve. The Warriors boys had 229 points. Huron topped New Riegel 45-62 for the win.

Riverdale gets signature win against Van Buren

FINDLAY — If first-year Riverdale head football coach Britton Devier was looking for a signature win in his debut season, he found it Friday night against Van Buren at Donnell Stadium in Findlay, defeating the Black Knights for the first time since joining the Blanchard Valley Conference six years ago.

Defense carries Carey past Mohawk 21-6

CAREY — Heading into halftime Friday night against Mohawk at Wentling Field, Carey had not scored a point in seven quarters and was staring at a 0-4 record if things didn’t change. The Blue Devils did not allow that to happen. The defense continued its dominant play, and the offense did enough to get Carey its first win of the season 21-6, their first victory against the Warriors in three seasons.
