MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale swept Bucyrus, 25-18, 25-23, 25-18, to get its first volleyball victory of the season. Carrol Pauley and Jessica Johnston led the attack for the Falcons (1-2) with 12 and nine kills, respectively.

Mother tops sons in tri-match

SYCAMORE — Nancy Hoover’s Old Fort volleyball team got the best of both of her sons’ teams in a tri-match Saturday at Mohawk. The Stockaders swept Edison and then swept Mohawk, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16.

Hoppe’s hat trick leads ‘Cats past Rams

KENTON — Drew Hoppe’s hat trick proved too much for Upper Sandusky in a 5-2 Kenton boys soccer victory Saturday. Hoppe scored the first goal of the game just beyond the first five minutes, and Hayden Hicks followed with a second Kenton goal less than 10 minutes later.

Riverdale boys hold on, top Miller City

MILLER CITY — Riverdale outscored Miller City in the first half and hung on for nearly an hour of scoreless play for a 2-1 non-league boys soccer victory on Saturday. Ethan Melroy opened scoring just past the five-minute mark in the first half on an assist by Ben Gannon, and after Josh Recker’s equalizer at the seven-minute mark, Gannon turned in the winning goal off an assist by Taylor Bacon at 21:51 in the first half.

Smalleys win No. 4 doubles title

WILLARD — Sisters Jodi Smalley and Mara Smalley took the No. 4 doubles championship to help Upper Sandusky finish in fourth place Saturday in the Willard Doubles Invitational. The Smalleys routed a team from Bucyrus in the first round, 6-1, 6-0, and followed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Norwalk to reach the finals where they topped Willard, 6-4, 6-4.
