Carey’s May finishes 3rd at LCC Invite

LIMA — Tanner May took third place at 182 pounds to lead four Carey placers in the LCC Thunderbird Invitational wrestling tournament this weekend at Lima Central Catholic. May cruised into the semifinals but suffered his first loss of the year, 4-3 to Ottawa-Glandorf’s Danny Rosales.

Youth soccer sessions set

The Upper Sandusky girls soccer coaching staff is providing Sunday Night Soccer winter training for girls in third through eighth grades. The sessions are 6-8 p.m. Sundays through March 24 (excluding Feb. 3) in the Upper Sandusky High School gym. Sessions are free.

CAREY — A hotly-contested Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls varsity basketball game between Carey and Wynford came down to the wire. With the score tied and 9.1 seconds remaining, Wynford’s guards passed the ball around the perimeter and the ball ended up in the hands of sophomore guard Lyndie Williams.

Pifher, Evak help BC put away Upper late

Take a glance at the Northern 10 Athletic Conference’s stats and it isn’t hard to find Buckeye Central’s Courtney Pifher and 6-foot-2 center Lexi Evak’s names. Courtney Pifher and Evak showed why that’s the case on Friday, combining for 27 points in the Bucks’ 58-46 victory over Upper Sandusky at Upper Sandusky High School.

FINDLAY — The Riverdale boys varsity basketball team shot the lights out of the gym Friday night in a Blanchard Valley Conference game against Liberty-Benton. Riverdale shot 69 percent from the field en route to a 67-53 victory over the Eagles at Liberty-Benton.

Rams put 3 in semifinals

MARION — Gage Ebert, Emery Pahl and Ashton Shepherd reached the semifinals of the Sally George Invitational to lead Upper Sandusky on the first day of the tournament Friday at Pleasant. Pahl won two matches by pin at 132 pounds, and Shepherd won a pair of decisions at 145 pounds.

Indians split pair of games

The Wyandot County Indians varsity basketball team defeated the Seneca County Arrows 44-35 on Jan. 17. The Arrows ran out to a 14-8 lead after one quarter but the Indians (2-2) took control with a 17-4 advantage in the second quarter that gave them a 25-18 lead. They pushed their lead to 35-24 after three quarters.

Mohawk 2-2 at DIII Duals

SANDUSKY — Mohawk went 2-2 on the first day of the Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic Division III Duals on Friday. Despite forfeiting at least four weight classes per match, the Warriors had losses of 51-18 to Norwayne and 39-27 to Archbold and victories of 57-18 against Monroeville and 45-36 against Tinora.
