Kenton holds off Riverdale

KENTON — Kenton built a big early lead and seemed to be cruising to a non-conference baseball victory over Riverdale on Thursday. The Falcons (9-8) took advantage of several Kenton miscues in the sixth inning to make the game close, but ultimately the Wildcats held on to win, 6-4.

Riverdale boys, girls beat Arlington

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale’s girls and boys were winners in a home track meet against Arlington on Thursday. The Falcons girls topped the Red Devils, 103-34, and the Riverdale boys outscored Arlington, 90-46.

Wentling leads Carey past NB

NORTH BALTIMORE — Carey topped North Baltimore in a non-league softball game Thursday, 8-3, behind a seven-run fourth inning. The Tigers (10-7) scored two runs in the first inning and one in the second before the Blue Devils scored seven times to take the lead in the top of the fourth.

Mohawk grad gets coaching honor at ONU

ADA — Mohawk High School graduate Katie (Weininger) Kuhn was named of the nation’s top 30 coaches under 30 years old by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Kuhn is an assistant at Ohio Northern University, where she was a four-year letterwinner and three-year captain from 2005-08.

Hannah Jordan was the winning pitcher in Mohawk’s 5-1 victory against Ridgedale on Wednesday. She gave up one run on seven hits and no walks with six strikeouts.
