Winslow named coach of year District 6 Division II

Upper Sandusky’s Jeff Winslow was named the co-coach of the year in Division II, and Upper Sandusky’s Wes Vent in Division II, Carey’s Cody Luzader in Division III and Wynford’s Jack Reed in Division IV all were first-team picks to the District 6 boys basketball teams.

Holderman named D-III player of year in District 6

Riverdale’s Sydney Holderman was player of the year in Division III to lead area All-District 6 girls basketball selections. Upper Sandusky’s Abigail Fogle in Division II, Mohawk’s Chelsey Trusty in Division III and Carey’s Sydney Kin in Division IV also were first-team picks.

Mohawk hangs on for sectional semi win

WILLARD — Mohawk turned the ball over 29 times and shot 31 percent in its sectional tournament semifinal against Ashland Crestview on Wednesday. But the sixth-seeded Warriors stole the lead for good with two starters on the bench in the second quarter and held on at the foul line for a 52-42 victory over the ninth-seeded Cougars.

Upper boys sectional ticket sales

Upper Sandusky will play in the sectional boys basketball tournament at 6:15 p.m. March 3 at Lima Senior High School. Pre-sale tickets will be sold Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the USHS athletic office.

Fastpitch signups this week

Upper Sandusky girls fastpitch softball sign-ups are being held this week for girls in kindergarten through eighth grade. The last remaining time to sign up is 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the Upper Sandusky Fire Department.

Fast start lifts Falcons

LEXINGTON — It figured to be a little easier than it was, but Riverdale used a fast start to take a 66-55 victory against Huron on Tuesday night in a Division III sectional semifinal game at Lexington. The No. 4 seed Falcons (12-11) raced out to an 18-7 lead but never was able to pull away from the No. 14 seed Tigers (2-19).
