Juniors help Falcons win sectional

LEXINGTON — When their seniors scorer sat with foul trouble, Riverdale got a push from a pair of juniors. Lexie Wright had 18 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals, and Reygan Frey chipped in 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists to life the fourth-seeded Falcons over No. 7 Edison, 60-51, in a sectional final Saturday at Lexington.

Gillig leads New Riegel upset of Carey

GENOA — Every time New Riegel needed a play, Brianna Gillig made it. She scored 29 points, including the game-winning basket with seven seconds left to lift No. 6 seed New Riegel to a 44-43 upset victory against No. 3 Carey in a Division IV sectional final game Saturday afternoon at Genoa.

Mohawk wins

ARCADIA — Coach Paul Dunn was victorious against his former team as Mohawk won its third straight game, 43-40, at Arcadia on Saturday night. The Warriors (8-14) trailed 12-9 after one quarter, tied the game at 19 by halftime, and the teams entered the fourth quarter still tied.

Mohawk 1st, Carey 2nd in DIII sectional

FOSTORIA — Mohawk advanced seven of its nine wrestlers to the semifinals Friday evening and is in first place after one day of Division III sectional wrestling at Fostoria. The Warriors have 58.5 points to lead Carey by 5.5 points.

Upward donation

Upward Basketball at Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church recently collected almost 2,000 non-perishable food items to donate to the Christian Food Pantry. The top three teams were rewarded with a pizza party from AJ’s Heavenly Pizza and Don Tomasso’s. Kimel Corp. provided the baskets and truck to transport the items. Submitted photo
