FINDLAY — After advancing to the district semifinals by winning its first sectional title in 10 years, the No. 8-seed Mohawk boys basketball team ran out of magic by halftime Wednesday evening and fell to No. 5-seed North Baltimore at Liberty-Benton High School, 57-37.

Wynford High School senior Tara Zinser signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play volleyball at Division III Capital University. Taking part in the signing ceremony were (front row, from left) mother Mollie Zinser, Tara, father Jake Zinser; (back row) athletic director Tim Ehresman, sister Macey Zinser and volleyball coach Jamee Burke. Zinser, an All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference second-team pick this past year, averaged 1.90 kills and .65 blocks per set.

Noah Clary is spending the week leading up to his return to the state wrestling tournament fine-tuning his crafts. At this stage in the campaign, that’s what it comes down to.

CAREY — Carey senior Jon Racheter and freshman Tanner May are both making their first trips as wrestlers to the state tournament this weekend. Their mentor is happy to show the kids the ropes.

LEXINGTON — By now, Riverdale is used to being an underdog, so the Falcons should not be intimidated facing defending state champion Columbus Africentric in tonight’s Division III regional semifinal game. The Falcons (15-11) also are not the same team they were at the start of the year.

SYCAMORE — Ever since Cole Draper finished last season as the state runner-up at 170 pounds in Division III, Mohawk coach Nate Lofay’s goal for him was a state championship this year. Even matching last year’s second-place finish will be a tall order based on Draper’s draw at the state tournament, which includes Mechanicsburg’s Kaleb Romero in the same quarter of the bracket.

Upper Sandusky’s Abigail Fogle was named player of the year, and Brent Fahle was coach of the year on the All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball team released Monday. Fogle was joined on the All-N10 first team by teammate Sierra Carey, Carey’s Sydney Kin and Mohawk’s Chelsey Trusty.

March Madness began at Wyandot Lanes with a full weekend of upsets in the Wyandot Match Game Invitational bowling tournament. The winners’ bracket semifinalists include No. 5 seed Brandt Walton, No. 11 Jerry Fagan, No. 15 Roger Ball and No. 16 Kory Walton, while the No. 2, 4, 6 and 9 seeds are done in the double-elimination tournament.

SHELBY — Riverdale is getting good a gutting out games. The Falcons kept their season going a while longer Saturday with a 65-61 win over Willard in the Division III district final at Shelby.
