Carey’s Lykins falls short of finals in 400

COLUMBUS — Addystin Lykins reached her peak at regionals. At the state meet in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Friday morning, she fell back down a bit. The Carey freshman was 14th in the 400 dash preliminaries in 1:01.74, nearly three second off the personal-record 58.86 she ran in the regional finals the weekend before.

Falcons’ Bacon PRs but just misses placing

COLUMBUS — Riverdale’s Taylor Bacon also came into the meet with high expectations for himself in the pole vault. And while he did not reach his goal of winning the event or setting a Riverdale school record, the junior did get over a personal best by 8 inches when he cleared 13-10 to finish 10th.

Williamsburg run rules Carey

AKRON — Carey’s first state tournament appearance was a short one. Victims of early errors and a pair of three-run blasts, the Blue Devils fell 10-0 to Williamsburg in a five-inning Division IV semifinal at Firestone Stadium in Akron.

Lefty Wagers overwhelms Blue Devils

AKRON — There was little Carey could do to be prepared for the best player it has faced all season. Williamsburg junior pitcher Carly Wagers asserted her dominance both in the circle and at the plate in a 10-0 Wildcats victory over the Blue Devils on Thursday in the Division IV state semifinals at Firestone Stadium in Akron.

Pack ready for final meet

For the last two meets, Shane Pack has been less than 100 percent. He still might not be all the way there, but as his final track meet approaches, he is ready to leave everything in the discus ring.

Pauley, Evans lead Falcons at state

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale’s Carrol Pauley and Kyle Evans are no strangers to the competition of the Division III state track and field meet. The Riverdale seniors both will be making their third appearances in Columbus this week when Pauley competes for the Falcons in the discus and shot put, and Evans puts on his running shoes in the 400 dash and as a member of the team’s 3200 relay.

Mohawk finally meets goal of state qualifying

SYCAMORE — After being on the cusp of the state meet in the girls 3200 relay for the past two years, Mohawk finally broke through this year. Juniors Destini Oler and Anna Stillberger, freshman Alexa Konkle and sophomore Madison Fredritz earned a spot in Friday’s state race by holding on for fourth place last Wednesday in the Fairfield Union regional meet.
