A 30-year veteran of Ohio public schools presented her vision for the state school board to Upper Sandusky City Council on Monday night, advocating for local control of public school systems and a holistic approach to educating children.

SYCAMORE — Carey coach Todd Worst’s theory is that a team has to be able to run the football in order to win. That philosophy proved true Friday night as the Blue Devils rushed for almost 300 yards while holding rival Mohawk to 151 in a 33-14 victory.

Two local parents are using the passion of their late son to keep his memory alive and to try to provide the local community an outlet to enjoy an annual pastime in the local rural community.

The 16th annual Autumn Cruise is slated for Sept. 24 in downtown Upper Sandusky, where hundreds of antique car and truck enthusiasts are expected to gather for a fundraiser to benefit Hospice of Wyandot County. This year’s car and truck show will honor the Wyandot Mission Church, now known as Old Mission Church, which was the first Methodist mission to Native Americans in the country.

Attendees of the Wyandot County Fair may notice some of the same faces year after year at the four gates to the fairgrounds. For nearly 15 years, two Sycamore couples have headed up the organization of volunteers who man the gates as part of a community service project for Sycamore United Church of Christ.

KENTON — Wyandot Classics and Cruisers representatives Jim Rhoden and Dan Newell recently presented a $500 donation to the Kenton High School information technology program.

Four new teachers with ties to Wyandot County and the surrounding area have joined the staff at the Upper Sandusky Exempted Village School District for the 2016-17 academic year. Joining the staff at Union Elementary and Upper Sandusky Middle School this year are Jake Leonard, Elizabeth Oberlander and Rachel Smith, while Stacy Sprague is the newest addition at East Elementary School.

A memorial outside the Upper Sandusky Safety Building honors the 343 New York Fire Department firefighters, including a chaplain and two paramedics, who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Participants in a balloon release recognize National Grandparents Day on Sunday at Westbrook Assisted Living and Memory Care. About 45 guests, including around 12 grandchildren, registered for the free luncheon, entertainment and balloon release, Westbrook marketing director Brittiny Leeth said.
