SYCAMORE — Sycamore Village Council announced Joe Weininger Field as the name of a new coach pitch ball field at American Legion Park on Tuesday during its regular meeting.

Upper Sandusky High School senior Emma Smith took home 11 awards to lead the class of 2016 during the annual awards ceremony Monday night. Smith won the Charles and Jean Gottfried Scholarship from the Wyandot County Community Foundation, along with the Floyd Hays Art Scholarship, Ohio State University Alumni Scholarship and Elks/OSU Big Nut Scholarship.

CLYDE — With hits hard to come by, Mohawk coach Eric Hoover decided to take a chance that paid off. With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Austin Shock’s suicide bunt scored pinch runner Brayden Dunlap from third to give the Warriors a 2-1 victory against Tiffin Calvert in the Division IV district championship Saturday at Clyde.

A new partnership has formed in order to continue to benefit veterans in need. The women of the American Legion Auxiliary of Post No. 225 in Upper Sandusky enlisted the help of Boy Scouts of America Troop Nos. 125 and 777 to sell paper poppy flowers in honor of Memorial Day.

FOSTORIA — Sydney Geiser admitted she never could have imagined at the start of the year what played out Friday. The Carey senior was seeing little action early in the year as the Blue Devils began 0-5.

The fifth and sixth grade classes at St. Peter School took part in the school’s annual bike ride Friday, as more than 60 individuals, including students, teachers, administrators and school graduates, road 13 miles. Nine current seniors at Upper Sandusky High School returned to their elementary school to partake in the ride.

The Mohawk High School class of 2016 kicked off graduation season in Wyandot County on Friday night with a ceremony at the school.

CAREY — For the second year in a row, a Wyandot County Catholic school teacher has won the Golden Apple award from the Diocese of Toledo. Greg Boyle was one of seven elementary teachers to receive the award along with two secondary teachers Thursday night at Hilton Garden Inn, Perrysburg.
