The Upper Sandusky girls soccer team recently held its awards banquet. Reinhart continues Carey state tradition

COLUMBUS — Only a few runners at Carey High School have qualified as individuals for the cross country state meet during the tenure of coach Dean Kessler. Carey’s Sarah Reinhart is the third freshman to qualify as an individual and will be running in the Division III girls race at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at National Trail Raceway in Hebron.

Riverdale’s Collier not nervous for final race

COLUMBUS — Riverdale senior Kendra Collier isn’t nervous to run at the state meet Saturday at National Trail Raceway in Hebron. Collier, the first Riverdale runner to compete at the state competition since 2001 and the first female since the early 1980s, also is the first runner in the tenure of coach Kim Rall to qualify for state.

Blue Devils, Bulldogs share much in common

COLUMBUS GROVE — Statistically, Carey and Columbus Grove look a lot alike. The Division VI Region 22 No. 5 Blue Devils and No. 4 Bulldogs both have 7-3 records. Led by big offensive lines, both teams have run for more yards than they have passed for but have taken to the air effectively when they do.

Montgomery, Treadway take top honors

All DCU golf team

Upper Sandusky’s Brett Montgomery was named player of the year, and Graham Treadway was coach of the year on the All-Daily Chief-Union golf team. Montgomery, a junior, was the Northern 10 Athletic Conference’s player of the year for the third straight season with a league-best 35.5 strokes per nine holes average, nearly three strokes better than second-best in the league.
