Upper Sandusky faces a big nonconference test on Saturday night, on Friday night, it looked ready. On the eve of a showdown with Lexington, the Rams dismantled Bucyrus in a 92-47 victory in Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball play Friday night.

SYCAMORE — Not long after the Mohawk boys basketball team switched from a full-court press to a three-quarters-court press and from a man-to-man defense to a zone in the second half, the Seneca East Tigers went scoreless for approximately six minutes.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale held a slim halftime lead against Blanchard Valley Conference foe Arlington on Friday night, but an Arlington defensive switch forced a sluggish start to the third and fourth quarters for the Falcons. The shift allowed Arlington to take command in the second half en route to a 67-54 Red Devils victory at Riverdale.

NEW WASHINGTON — Carey jumped out to a big lead early against Buckeye Central and never looked back Friday night, eventually defeating the Bucks 64-43 in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference game at Buckeye Central High School.

MANSFIELD — Brayzin McDaniel, Emery Pahl and Ethan Beidelschies each won a pair of matches to lead Upper Sandusky on the first day of the JC Gorman Invitational wrestling tournament Friday at Mansfield Senior.

BUCYRUS — While Wynford’s girls basketball team still has not reached the level of consistency coach Amy Taylor-Sheldon is looking for, the Royals have been finding ways to get wins. Hot early shooting helped build a lead and Wynford took down Lucas 57-49 in nonconference action Thursday night at W.R. Donnenwirth Gymnasium.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — After grabbing eight offensive rebounds in the first quarter, the North Baltimore girls basketball team only managed four offensive rebounds the rest of the way. But two of them came at a critical time.

McCUTCHENVILLE — In a battle of first-place teams, Trinity United Church of Christ of McCutchenville came up with a huge sweep of Heritage Christian Union Church, 8-5, 4-0 and 8-6, on Thursday in Wyandot County Church Dartball play.

MARION — Mohawk hung tough with one-loss Elgin but could not generate enough offense in a 43-24 road loss Thursday night. The Warriors (1-9) trailed 7-4 after one quarter and 23-16 at halftime but scored only eight points in the second half against the Comets (10-1).

Mohawk High School graduate Cadin Emshoff and Upper Sandusky High School graduate Taylor Emerick were key players on the Tiffin University men’s rugby team, coached by Sycamore native Jim Gucker. Emshoff was a USA Academic All-American and was the team most valuable player, scoring eight tries and 25 conversion kicks this year.
