Rams 2nd at River Valley

CALEDONIA — Newark dominated the River Valley Invitational tennis tournament Saturday, with Upper Sandusky finishing second. The Wildcats won all five positions to score 30 points and handed the Rams all five of their losses. Upper Sandusky scored 13 points, finishing ahead of River Valley with 9 points and Bucyrus with 3.

Eagles score early in win over Royals

FINDLAY — The Liberty-Benton softball team wasted little time jumping out to a three-run lead after two innings and added five more runs on the way to an 8-1 victory over Wynford on Saturday at Liberty-Benton. The Eagles (5-7) scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second inning, two in the third inning and three in the fourth.

Riverdale slugs past Continental

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Despite trailing by two runs after the first 3 1/2 innings, the Riverdale softball team exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and added two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away for an 11-4 victory over Continental on Friday at Riverdale.

Upper Sandusky girls take 2nd place in Rankin Invitational

RICHWOOD — Upper Sandusky’s girls took second place Friday in the Virg Rankin Invitational track and field meet at North Union. Jonathan Alder was the winner with 159 points, followed by the Rams with 117 points. Fairbanks took the boys title over Jonathan Alder 134-121, with Pleasant edging Upper Sandusky 74-72 for third.

Royals commit 10 errors

NORTH ROBINSON — Colonel Crawford used 10 Wynford errors to build a lead big enough to withstand some late Royals runs in a 10-5 victory in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball game Friday at Colonel Crawford.

Eagles win 5-4 again

NORTH ROBINSON — Two days after dropping a 5-4 decision to the Colonel Crawford baseball team, the Wynford baseball team dropped another 5-4 contest to the Eagles on Friday at Colonel Crawford.

Carey girls 1st, boys 2nd at BC

NEW WASHINGTON — Carey’s girls were first and the boys were second Friday in the Buckeye Central Stache Dash. The Blue Devils girls scored 139 points, with Willard taking second over Mohawk 113-82. Willard’s boys won by a wide margin with 177 points, followed by Carey with 93 points. Mohawk took eighth with 30 points.

Upper Sandusky student receives OHSAA umpire license

When Upper Sandusky senior Connor Landversicht is umpiring a baseball game, he feels he is giving back to the community and is closer to and more involved in the game he loves. Landversicht began taking his Beginning Officials courses through the Ohio High School Athletic Association in the middle of February in Marion, where he received instruction from Casey Mackay, a high school and college baseball umpire. He took a rules test, mechanics test and an OHSAA test and was required to have a score of 70% or higher on each test.
