Montgomery confident for state

One more event featured

As Brett Montgomery prepares to play in his final high school golf event, he is not especially nervous. The Upper Sandusky senior has played in the state tournament twice before, including once at NorthStar Golf Club. “It’s almost a little bittersweet, my last tournament playing for this school, but this being my third year, I’m a little bit more comfortable,” Montgomery said.

MOAC champion Galion gets sweep of Riverdale

Mid Ohio Athletic Conference champion Galion overwhelmed Riverdale 25-3, 25-13, 25-10 in a nonconference volleyball match Wednesday night at Riverdale. Jaden Ivy had nine kills, while Taylor Keeran added eight kills and Kerrigan Myers seven kills for the Tigers (21-1). Keeran also served five aces. Kate Schieber and Nicole Thomas had 10 digs each, and Kayla Hardy passed out 24 assists.

BWW having USHS night

Upper Sandusky athletes, students, teachers, families and friends are invited to Buffalo Wild Wings in Tiffin from 6-9 p.m. Nov. 11 for Upper Sandusky High School fall and winter sports night. Fifteen percent of all sales during that time will be donated to the Ram Boosters.

SYCAMORE — As the match between the Upper Sandusky and Mohawk volleyball teams progressed, Mohawk senior outside hitter Tess Weinandy and her teammates noticed a weakness in the Rams’ defense. “Going line on them, because their middle back wouldn’t rotate to the line, so the deep corners were open a lot,” Weinandy said of what enabled them to have success offensively.

Thiel sets record in Rams’ win

TIFFIN — Jaidyn Thiel set the Upper Sandusky single-match scoring record by recording all of the Rams’ goals in an 8-1 boys soccer victory against Tiffin Columbian on Tuesday in Tiffin. Thiel scored five times in the first half and three more times in the second half for the Rams (5-8-1). The record previously was set by Taylor Emerick in 2015.

Falcons edge ‘Riders

ST. MARYS — Riverdale began a challenging week with a 3-1 nonconference boys soccer road victory at St. Marys Memorial on Tuesday night. The undefeated Falcons (11-0-3) got first-half goals from Drew Frey and Logan Frey in the 23rd and 27th minutes, with Coby Miller assisting on the second goal, to take a 2-0 lead.

Carey tops Ridgedale

MORRAL — Bailey Tanner and McKenzie Row combined for 28 kills as Carey rallied from a first-set loss to beat Ridgedale 20-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-13 in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference volleyball match Tuesday night. Tanner had 15 kills, while Row had 13 kills and also added 19 digs. Alaina Tiell finished with eight kills, Sadie Arend had seven and Addi Miller tallied six.

SE tops Wynford

ATTICA — The Seneca East volleyball team proved to be too tough in a 25-20, 25-21, 25-18 victory over the Wynford volleyball team on Tuesday at Seneca East High School. Averi McMillan finished with eight kills, six digs and 17 assists, while Lainey Holman finished with 19 kills and 11 digs.

Swanton rallies late to tie Riverdale

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Aricka Lutz scored three goals, including two fairly late in the second half to rally Swanton to a 3-3 draw against Riverdale in a nonconference girls soccer match Monday at Riverdale. With the Falcons (7-6-1) leading 3-1, Lutz scored on a penalty kick with 16:23 remaining, and then two minutes later, she scored again.

Falcons’ Collier 2nd in county meet

KENTON — Riverdale’s Juleigha Collier was edged out for first place in the Hardin County Meet on Monday at the Hardin County Fairgrounds. Collier finished in 21:03.0, finishing three seconds behind Kenton’s Kierra Krohmer, who crossed the finish line in 21:03.0. The Falcons’ Liviya Benjamin was ninth in 24:32.6, and Isabella Renteria took 13th place in 26:56.8.
