BUCYRUS — The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District has released its 2015 year-end reports. According to the reports, the Crawford SWCD hosted 13 adult programs and reached 367 adults.

FINDLAY — A special drawing is set for March 19 at the Lake La Su An Wildlife Area headquarters for youth interested in turkey hunting, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Youth ages 17 and younger may participate.

COLUMBUS — Farmers who apply fertilizer on more than 50 acres are being encouraged to obtain their fertilizer applicator certification before this year’s planting season. The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation is asking farmers to attend a training session being conducted by the Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.

WASHINGTON — The National Farmers Union’s Beginning Farmers Institute is accepting applications for 2017. While 57 percent of the nation’s 3.2 million farmers are within 10 years of retirement age or older, according to the 2012 Ag Census, the number of young farmers is trending upward.

Hundreds of people poured into the dining hall at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds on Sunday to celebrate the start of the 2016 4-H season, learn about potential student projects and have pancakes and sausage. Proceeds from the donation-only breakfast go back to the Wyandot County 4-H program, and sunny, spring-like weather brought 4-H supporters from throughout the county to Upper Sandusky.

BUCYRUS — The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors recently reorganized for 2016. Rose Hartschuh was chosen as chairwoman, Nathan Brause as vice chairman, Andrew Eichhorn as secretary, Tom Miller as treasurer and Kent Stuckey as fiscal agent.

The Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District is offering a scholarship to Wyandot County youth who have been accepted or currently are enrolled in an accredited college for fall 2016 and hold a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

The Wyandot County Soil and Water Conservation District had a busy year in 2015 and already is planning just as much or more activity over the next 12 months.

The Wyandot County Farm Service Agency is reminding farmers and landowners that the next general enrollment period for the Conservation Reserve Program has started and will end Feb. 26. As of September, 24.2 million acres across the nation were enrolled in CRP.

REYNOLDSBURG — In 2015, the Ohio Department of Agriculture recognized 114 new century or bicentennial farms owned by the same family for at least 100 or 200 consecutive years. There now are more than 1,200 farms registered across the state in the Ohio’s Historic Family Farms program.
