Area dairy producers encouraged to enroll in insurance program COLUMBUS — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency in Ohio recently announced dairy producers can enroll for 2017 coverage in the Margin Protection Program for Dairy starting July 1. The voluntary program, established by the 2014 farm bill, provides financial assistance to participating dairy producers when the margin — the difference between the price of milk and feed costs — falls below the coverage level selected by the producer. SWCD supervisors to be elected Two supervisors will be elected at the Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual banquet Aug. 25 to serve three years beginning in January. Each county soil and water conservation district in Ohio is governed by a board of five local supervisors. Read More
County sportsman association releases fishing derby results For approximately 30 years, the Wyandot County Sportsman Association has sponsored a fishing derby in the Upper Sandusky area for youth ages 1-15. This year’s even took place Sunday at Harrison Smith Park. Read More

Woodland program to be offered in Mansfield MANSFIELD — Ohio State University at Mansfield will host the Ohio woodland stewards program from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 5, and the deadline to register is July 29. Participants will learn how to diagnose common and uncommon tree problems and work with OSU Extension specialists to learn what trees need immediate attention and what is simply cosmetic. Read More
