Star stage veteran Charles Groth (center) portrays Chef Louis in the upcoming Star Theatre production of “The Little Mermaid.” The musical opens this weekend and runs at 7 p.m. June 29 and 30, at 2 p.m. July 1, at 7 p.m. July 5 and 7 and at 2 p.m. July 8.

Tickets now are on sale for The Star Players’ summer theater production, “Disney’s The Little Mermaid.” Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” is a love story for the ages.

Area residents will have an opportunity to experience a blast from the past with a classic movie night 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Star Theatre in Upper Sandusky. The first night of the planned monthly series will feature the 1953 western film “Shane.”

The Star Players are proud to announce that “Star Kids Piratepalooza” is being performed this Friday and Saturday at the Star Theatre in Upper Sandusky. Star Kids is the annual Star Players Children’s Theatre Workshop.

The 16th annual Sandusky River Gospel Festival is 1-9 p.m. Saturday at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds Dining Hall, 10171 Ohio 53, Upper Sandusky. Groups from Ohio and surrounding states are scheduled to perform.

MARION — Entering its 20th year, Set the Stage theater camps have been a part of the Marion Palace Theatre’s programming and a summertime tradition for many aspiring thespians of all skill levels. This summer, the popular performing arts camp returns offering students age 6-14 an all-day, weeklong theater experience.

The Upper Sandusky High School drama department recently held its Rammie Awards program. Winners for the fall play, “Not Your Average Zombie Apocalypse,” were Kate Gagnon, student director; Katie Clark, best crew member; Joey Verdugo, best actor; Lucy Smith, best actress; Mitchell DeWitt, best supporting actor; Laura Stauffer, best supporting actress; Brett Bianchi, best male small role; Leah Crawford, best female small role; Clay Burger, best male comedic performance; Olivia Barth, best female comedic performance; and Christin Schwiebert, best foreign actor.

Howard Cole provided musical entertainment outside at Fairhaven Wednesday during the resident’s picnic. Cole sang a wide range of songs from Elvis Presley to Hank Williams and even some Johnny Cash.

A little bit of Broadway came to the Star Players’ upcoming production of “The Marvelous Wonderettes” that opens tonight. David Romich, head sound engineer on the Broadway tour of “Wicked,” was in town two different Mondays helping his former teacher, Jan Stoneburner, with the technical portion of the show.

TIFFIN — The Ritz Players’ “[title of show]” will take The National Theatre stage at The Ritz, 30 S. Washington St., Tiffin, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and May 19 and at 2 p.m. May 20. Directed by Charles Groth, of Bloomvile, cast members are Daniel Bradshaw, of Marion, as Jeff; Hannah Mathias, of Tiffin, as Heidi; Wes Vollmar, of Findlay, as Hunter; Amanda Zucker, of Marion, as Susan; and Jim Besch, of Marion, as Larry.
