Nominations sought for physician of year

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians now is accepting nominations for the 2018 Family Physician of the Year Award. This award recognizes a family physician who has exhibited extraordinary, beyond-the-call-of-duty merit, articulating and encouraging members and students to pursue the ideals of family medicine and convey these ideals to the public.

Meeting minutes: February 5, 2018

A recent Wyandot Memorial Hospital Guild meeting was called to order by President Judy Swartz reading “When Nature is in Slumber.” Seventeen members were in attendance. Secretary minutes and the treasurer’s report were read and approved.

Vanguard students visit Statehouse

FREMONT — Representative Bill Reineke recently hosted Vanguard-Sentinel Career & Technology Centers at the Statehouse in Columbus. During the visit, students from the culinary arts and hospitality management program had the opportunity to show off their skills to state legislators and other visitors of the Statehouse by serving a variety of sweet treats they created.

OLC bakery having Super Bowl sale

CAREY — The Our Lady of Consolation Volunteer Bakery, founded by the late Father Paul Faroh, is preparing for its Super Bowl bake sale Saturday and Sunday by making chili, ham and bean soup and lots of pies. Apple, Dutch apple, peach and peach with crumb topping pies will be sold at a special price.

HEAP able to help with heating bills

The Home Energy Assistance Program Winter Crisis Program was created to provide financial assistance, one time per heating season, to income eligible households who are threatened with disconnection of their heating source, have service already disconnected, need to establish new service, seek to transfer service, or have less than a 25 percent supply of bulk fuel.

Bucyrus hosting Ash Wednesday service

BUCYRUS — A discovery of who Jesus is and what He is — or can be — begins at 7 p.m. Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14 at the Bucyrus United Methodist Church Worship Center, 227 S. Walnut St., Bucyrus. Ash Wednesday worship includes a message, communion and the imposition of the ashes.
