SHELBY — The ability to execute small ball and clutch hitting have been two elements of the Wynford baseball team’s success the last two weeks. During Thursday’s Division III district semifinal versus Galion, the Royals successfully executed in both areas as the No. 10 seeded Royals upset the No. 1 seed Galion, 6-5, at Shelby.

OAK HARBOR — Upper Sandusky’s Dylan Ham qualified for regional competition, and teammate Joey Verdugo just missed joining him Wednesday in the first day of Division II track and field district competition at Oak Harbor. Ham finished third in the shot put with a throw of 51-4.5. The top four placers in each event advance to next week’s regionals.

Neumeister’s Candy Shoppe in Upper Sandusky may have some new owners, but the old recipes are sticking around despite plenty of new menu options. Debbie and Tim Frey purchased Neumeister’s this past August and they finally had some free time to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Wyandot Chamber of Commerce last Wednesday.

The Upper Sandusky High School chess club hosted a community chess event at Senior Connection on Tuesday. The chess club will host its next event from 4-6 May 23 at the Upper Sandusky Community Library and players from beginner, intermediate and expert skill levels are invited.

The sophomore slugged a key three-run home run in the third inning to lead the way in the Warriors’ 10-3 victory against top-seeded Monroeville in a Division IV district semifinal game Tuesday at Shelby.
