Riverdale’s Marissa Bonham (13) brings the ball up the court Thursday night against Arcadia. Bonham had 14 points and 11 rebounds, breaking the school career rebounding record in the Falcons’ 51-35 victory.

ARCADIA — Riverdale held Arcadia to 22% shooting and took a 51-35 victory in Blanchard Valley Conference girls basketball play Thursday night at Arcadia.

The Redskins (13-4, 6-3 BVC) went just 10 of 46 from the field, especially struggling near the basket. They were just 5 of 28 on 3-point attempts.

Despite missing two days of practice because of weather, the Falcons executed their game plan outstandingly, coach Drew Bostic said.

“It came down to two things for us, defense and controlling the pace,” he said. “Arcadia can score quickly, in bunches, and has guards who can shoot from the perimeter. We really wanted to slow it down, use our height to our advantage and defend them in a half-court set instead of in transition.”

Riverdale (10-7, 7-1 BVC) led 13-8 after one quarter, 22-13 at halftime and 41-24 after three quarters.

Dylann Thacker and Marissa Bonham both scored 14 points to lead the way, while Claire Inbody had 10 points. Bonham added 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Inbody also had a double-double by finishing with 10 boards.

Only a junior, Bonham broke the school career rebounding record her sister set last year and now has 678.

The Falcons went 20 of 42 (48%) from the field and 7 of 13 on foul shots. They held a 30-19 rebounding advantage on Bostic’s birthday.

“The girls did a great job in the half-court set in our offenses by looking inside first, sharing the basketball and rotating it back out for a better look as our offense progressed,” Bostic said. “Our posts and Marissa did a great job inside, and we were able to get good looks from inside the paint. Our guards stepped up and knocked down some big 3s when it rotated back out.”

Liberty Voges and Ryleigh Bostic had 10 points each for Arcadia, with Addy Colman adding eight points.

There was no junior varsity game.

Riverdale plays at 6 p.m. Monday at Kenton.
