Local players selected for All-Star game

Seven local high school baseball players will join 11 others on the Wyandot/Crawford County Team in the District 9 All-Star Game. The Wyandot/Crawford County Team will face the Richland County Team in the District 9 All-Star Game at 7 p.m. May 29 at the Sports Force Parks/Cedar Point Sports Center.

LANCASTER — Both of Upper Sandusky Middle School’s state-qualifying pole vaulters placed this weekend in the OHSAA 7th and 8th Grade State Track and Field Champions in Lancaster. Eighth-grader Kendra Conley cleared 9-0 to finish in sixth place in the girls competition.

Seneca East tops Upper, 4-1, clinches title share

ATTICA — With the Northern 10 Athletic Conference baseball championship on the line, Seneca East had its ace on the mound and he delivered. Bo Smith gave up an unearned run on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts — lowering his ERA to 0.11 — to lead the Tigers to a 4-1 victory against Upper Sandusky that makes them N10 co-champions with Carey.

Wynford holds on for 7-5 win over Bucyrus

BUCYRUS — Wynford scored five runs in the fourth inning to build a six-run lead and then held on for a 7-5 victory against Bucyrus in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference baseball game Saturday. The Royals (10-13, 7-9 N10) scored once each in the first and second innings and won their third straight game.

Wynford routs Buckeye, 17-2

BUCYRUS — On its senior night, the Wynford softball team used a five-run first inning and a 12-run third inning to overwhelm Buckeye Central 17-2 in a run-ruled victory on Friday at Wynford High School. “Senior night was very special for all five of Wynford’s seniors who led the offensive attack,” Wynford coach Jamee Burke said.

MORRAL — Last year, Upper Sandusky came up 2.5 points shy of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls track and field championship. The Rams made sure that did not happen again, running away with their first league title since 2001 on Friday night at Ridgedale.

ONTARIO — With a lineup as deep as Ontario’s, there was no margin for error by Upper Sandusky’s defense or its pitcher, Alivia Oney. Mistakes mounted early, however, the Rams made six errors, and Oney was frustrated by a tight strike zone in an 11-1 loss to the Warriors in a Division II sectional final Friday at Ontario.

Van Buren avenges earlier loss to Upper

VAN BUREN — When the Upper Sandusky baseball team faced Van Buren pitcher Angel Garcia on April 5 amidst 38 degree temperatures, his curveball wasn’t moving as expected. Fast forward one month and six days, and although the conditions were still unseasonably cold, this time, Garcia pitched a two-hit shutout for five innings as the Black Knights overwhelmed the Rams 10-0 in a five inning run-ruled victory.
