ARLINGTON — A close game at halftime turned into a blowout as Riverdale lost its football season opener at Arlington on Friday. Trailing by just 7 points at the half, Riverdale’s offense was shut down by an opportunistic Arlington defense, which intercepted Riverdale quarterback Alec Loveridge four times in the game and forced five turnovers overall.

Grothaus’ career-best 40 leads Carey past Wynford

CAREY — Dylan Grothaus shot a career-best 40 to lead Carey to a 174-191 victory against Wynford in Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys golf action Thursday at Bob’s Countryside Golf Course. Grothaus eagled No. 5, with Ethan Tanner doing the same and shooting a 42. Kole Phillips and Carter Frederick both finished with 46s.

Kuenzli’s 41 leads Falcons past Gophers

ARLINGTON — Andrew Kuenzli medaled with a 41 to lead Riverdale to a 204-231 victory against Ridgemont in a boys golf match Wednesday at Sycamore Springs Golf Course. Rease Haley shot a 50, Curtis Tracy tallied a 51, and Justin Hartman finished with a 62 for the Falcons (7-6).

Spartans get competitive 4-1 win

Pleasant won all three close matches while taking a 4-1 victory against Upper Sandusky in a girls tennis match Wednesday. The Rams (0-4) got their only win from Jodi Smalley in the No. 1 singles match. She downed Arielle Wenig 6-1, 6-3.

Williams leads Rockets past Royals

BUCYRUS — Brock Williams shot a 39 to lead Ridgedale to its first Northern 10 Athletic Conference victory, 183-189, over Wynford on Tuesday at The Golf Club of Bucyrus. The Rockets (2-1, 2-1 N10) got a 41 from Jesse Schertzer and a 43 from Grant Park, and those three strong scores were good enough even when combined with a 60 from Brent Millisor for the fourth score.
